The Connecticut Legal Rights Project condemns the murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police officers, and the killings of Breonna Taylor and David McAtee by Louisville police. It is not enough to condemn individual acts of state violence and racism. We condemn the racist systems of power set up in the Constitution at its founding. We are committed to fight institutional power structures whose foundations jangle and clang all the way back to the chains that bound our brothers and sisters on ships and sold, whipped, exploited, raped, murdered and lynched them. We cannot stand by as the white majority reaps benefits from the racist provisions in the Constitution, centuries of slavery, horrific white terrorism after reconstruction, Jim Crow, mass incarceration and economic oppression, and then blame those very people who have been terrorized. CLRP is committed to fighting racism and bigotry and stands with all people fighting for equality and justice.
